Mastering The LSAT – Guest Speakers Series

The goals of the Mastering The LSAT program are to:

First, help you achieve  an LSAT score that reflects the top end of your abilities;

Second, to assist you with every step of the application process;

Third, to give you insights into what law school is about;

Fourth, to expose to lawyers who will be able help you understand various options for a career in the law.

The purpose of our  “Guest Speakers” series is assist with these goals. You will hear the insights from a number of lawyers, law students, law professors, law admissions professionals  and others.  Our “guest speakers” typically appear for the last few minutes of the day. In addition, on Saturday June 12, 2010 you will attend Pre-Law Forum (organized by the Richardson Prep Centre) where you will hear directly from the admissions directors from many Canadian law schools.

Timothy Puzstai, B.A., M.A., LL.B.

Timothy is a lawyer in private practice. As a recent law school graduate, he is well qualified to talk about the law school experience. He has been a long time contributor to the Richardson – Law School Bound newsetter.

Sunday May 16, 2010 – 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. “Getting Into Law School”

John Richardson, B.A., LL.B., J.D.

This course will provide an overview and foundation for the rest of the guest speakers.

Attend A U.S. School – Become An Ontario Lawyer


Peter is a member of the bars of Ontario and Michigan and works as an “in-house counsel” for a Toronto firm. He is a graduate of the law school at Michigan State University and attended Osgoode Hall law school. He will entertain you with stories about his law school experience and tell you how he attended a U.S. law school and was admitted to the bar of Ontario.

Sunday May 30, 2010 – 12:00 noon – Your First Law School Class

Professor Philip Slayton

Participate in your first law school class! This will be an amazing event for any pre-law student. Philip Slayton is a former professor and dean of the law school at the University of Western Ontario. He also practiced for many years at a large Toronto law firm. He will teach a first year contracts class using a real case. This is a must attend event for anybody seriously interested in law school. But you have to read and study the case in advance! (The case will not be distributed at the event.)

Saturday June 15, 2010 – How To Apply To Law School

Tapas Pain., B.Sc., M.Sc., LL.B.

Tapas is a partner in a Toronto law firm specializing in the area of intellectual property law. Learn some of the dos and don’ts of effective law school applications. You will also discover how to prosper in a small law firm and carve out a specialty.

Terrie-Lynne Devonish, LL.B. – Of The Bar Of Ontario

Terrie-Lynne Devonish is General Counsel at Aon Canada company and also worked previously as an associate at a large Bay Street firm. Her achievements include a recent appointment to the Board Of Governors of York University and most recently she was selected as one of the Globe and Mail’s “Top 40 Under 40”.

Applying to law school is a lot of work. It is important to do this work when it does not conflict with school. The purpose of this seminar is to help you get this done in the summer.
